Character Translations
RPM Remote Print Manager® supports custom character translations. Users can create named translation tables which specify one-to-one single byte translations, that is, any character to any other character. Reported uses of this feature include:
- Translate unwanted characters to a character that the printer ignores, or which RPM can remove.
- Convert characters for a specific printer (typically accented characters).
Euro Character Support
The AS/400 is passing a hex character that did not translate correctly. Using a translation table, the incorrect character can easily be translated into a Euro symbol (Hex 80) by RPM as the print job is being processed.
Slavic Characters
A suitable code page was not available on a Unix system to support Slavic characters. Using a Windows code page and font, a translation table was used to translate the incoming data into the correct characters that would have otherwise been impossible to accomplish.
