Print to File - Write to Disk
From any Host System
RPM Remote Print Manager® writes to disk (mainframe print to file) incoming data from a UNIX, AS400, Mainframe system, or ANY host system, to any Windows® resource. With RPM you are able to write to disk AND print to a printing device at the same time.
RPM will save mainframe files to your Windows PC or to a localized archive/storage disk. With RPM, you have the flexibility to save print jobs to file and print data from across the world or from the local mainframe down the hall!
Flexible File Name and File Saving Options
- Incoming data can easily be written to a file (printed to file) for archiving or other purposes
- RPM checks for duplicate filenames before saving
- RPM has many file naming options available
- Data can be saved to local or networked folders
Print to File for an Automatic Print file Archive
RPM's Write-to-Disk/Print-to-File feature is what set's RPM apart from other print servers. Filter processing in RPM provides the means to integrate print data to your disk (write to disk) or to print with third-party software and custom processing, while continuing to use the established printing services in your business system.
Put simply, the goal is to save the print job (print to file) on disk and optionally open the file in another software application.
Run your software
To support running a Windows program, RPM provides the following features:
- Browse for a program path, edit the command line
- Run one program at a time (e.g. reduce impact on desktop resources, logged in user)
- Remove the print job when the filter program is finished
- Select the directory to place incoming data
- RPM can also add a file extension
Write to disk
RPM also supports a variety of file naming and storage requirements:
- RPM uses long or short names for compatibility with 16-bit or newer software.
- RPM offers fine control over the filename, including a custom prefix and optional use of the global sequence number or job-specific data (e.g. host name, remote filename, etc.).
- RPM provides a guarantee of a unique filename by adding a numbered extension if needed.
- RPM can append the print job to an existing file.
Enhanced Mainframe Printing
RPM also has many hard-to-find network printing features that you won't find in other print servers, hardware or software. Features include banner page support, SCS to ASCII translation, EBCDIC to ASCII translation, PCL support, many printer finishing options, and more.
