Easily Convert SCS to ASCIIRPM Remote Print Manager can interpret and translate SCS codes to ASCII. When printing non-text files (pass-through and filter) RPM creates line oriented output using carriage return for overstrikes when appropriate. For text output RPM preserves the SCS markup and reproduces attributes such as margins, font size, character position, etc.
Benefits to using RPM for SCS translationMoving SCS rendering off the host computer reduces AS/400 CPU time. Reported print times were reduced from minutes to seconds, although results will vary depending on the host utilization. Other benefits include: support for country-specific extensions to EBCDIC; and ability to capture to disk using an RPM filter queue. Printing Samples from SCS to ASCIIBoth of the following samples are from actual customers. The first sample's confidential information has been changed, although the form is real. This illustrates RPM's ability to change the font and style as directed. The second sample is a plain text screen dump from an AS/400. The settings for both samples were set as follows:
Sample 1 with SCS markup (PDF, 17588 bytes) Sample 2, AS/400 screen dump (PDF, 12083 bytes)
